There’s a quote that has stuck with me for years:
“There is no expedient to which a man will not resort to avoid the real labor of thinking.”
That was said long before smartphones, social media, or constant notifications.
And yet—it might be more true today than ever.
The Life Most People Are Living
Let me ask you something—honestly:
When was the last time you sat down—no phone, no distractions—and really thought about your life?
Not your schedule. Not your to-do list. Not your next goal.
But your life.
Where it’s going. What you’re building. Why it matters.
If you’re like most people, it’s been a while. Not because you don’t care—but because you’re busy. And busyness has a way of crowding out clarity.
The Modern Trap
We live in a world of constant motion.
Work deadlines. Kids’ activities. Financial responsibilities. Emails, texts, and notifications. Trying to stay healthy. Trying to stay connected. Trying to keep everything moving.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, we stop asking the most important question:
What kind of life am I actually building?
The danger isn’t that we’re doing nothing.
The danger is that we’re doing everything—without direction.
Maybe This Is You
This is where this becomes personal—because this isn’t theory. It’s real life.
Maybe you’re in your 20s, just getting started, trying to figure out your path and wondering if you’re making the right decisions.
Maybe you’re in your 30s or 40s, balancing career, kids, finances, and responsibilities—and everything feels full, but still slightly off.
Maybe you’ve “made it”—built a successful career or business, checked all the boxes—and yet there’s a quiet question in the background:
Is this it?
Or maybe something happened—a moment that made you stop.
A birth. A health scare. A loss. A major life transition.
And for a second… you saw your life differently.
My Wake-Up Call
For me, that moment came when my son Colton was born.
Up until that point, I was doing what most people do—working hard, chasing success, and measuring progress by income, titles, and achievements. And on paper, things were going well.
But I hadn’t stopped to ask:
Where is this all leading?
Then I held him for the first time—and something shifted. Not gradually. Instantly.
I realized this little boy was going to look to me for guidance. For identity. For direction.
And the question hit me hard:
If everything I’m building “works”… will it actually matter?
The Dangerous Reality
Here’s what I’ve come to believe:
Most people don’t fail because they lack discipline.
Most people don’t fail because they lack opportunity.
Most people fail because they never stop long enough to think about the life they are building.
So they drift—often without realizing it—until years have passed.
They pursue what the world tells them matters: money, status, achievement, accumulation.
And one day, they wake up and realize:
They built a life they never actually chose.
You Were Created for More
I believe this deeply:
You were not created to just stay busy.
You were not created to just accumulate.
You were not created to just react to life.
You were created to live with purpose, lead your family intentionally, steward your time and energy, and build something that actually matters.
And that doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens by design.
This Is the Beginning of a Bigger Conversation
Over the next several months, I’m going to be sharing ideas, frameworks, and lessons as I write my upcoming book: The Stewardship Blueprint
This isn’t just about money.
It’s about faith, family, fitness, fun, and finances—and how all of those come together to build a life well lived.
But before we get into strategy, we have to start here.
A Simple Challenge (Start Here)
This week, I want you to do something most people avoid:
Set aside 20–30 minutes.
No phone. No distractions. No multitasking.
And ask yourself:
- What am I currently pursuing—and why?
- Where is my life actually headed?
- What kind of life do I want to build?
That’s it.
No pressure to fix everything. Just awareness.
Because reflection is where transformation begins.

What’s one moment in your life that made you stop and think differently?
Or—what’s something you’ve been meaning to reflect on, but haven’t yet?
Feel free to share in the comments or reach out directly. I read every message.
And if this resonated with you, share it with someone who might need it.
There are more people than you think asking these same questions.
Final Thought
You don’t need a perfect plan today.
But you do need to pause.
Because the life you’re building is being built right now—whether you’re intentional about it or not.
